Master Plan
Plymouth, MI

The City of Plymouth is an established community containing an attractive downtown area, surrounded by a residential, commercial and industrial areas. In 1995 and again in 2006, the City initiated a master planning effort which focused on identifying important community assets and developing strategies for continued improvement. The Master Plan that was adopted by the City Planning Commission and City Commission emphasizes single family land uses and the maintenance and enhancement of existing residential neighborhoods. Policies were developed to preserve and protect important residential areas and to foster the redevelopment and reinvestment in older homes and existing single family residential areas. The Master Plan also identifies strategies for continued improvement of commercial and industrial properties. Five special planning areas were identified in the Master Plan, including the commercial corridor of Ann Arbor Road, Main Street, Old Village area, the Downtown, and other transitional properties.

Since adoption of the City’s Master Plan, the Planning Commission and City Commission have been actively involved in implementing it by way of selected rezoning, commercial corridor improvements, downtown improvements, and capital improvement planning.
