Clinton Main Watershed Plan
Clinton, MI

The Clinton-Main Watershed group was formed to address the State Phase II permit requirements. Phase II of the Clean Water Act is intended to regulate the manner in which communities manage storm water, or non-point source water pollution. Members of the Clinton-Main subwatershed include sixteen communities, educational organizations, and other municipal agencies in Oakland County. The subwatershed contains a broad range of large-lot residential, surbuban, and urban land uses.

The first step in this project was to develop a work plan that provides step-by-step guidance in the organization and substance of the watershed management plan. As part of the consulting team, CWA developed and drafted components of the work plan that included evaluation and recommendations for existing community planning documents in areas that were particularly critical for this subwatershed. Following this initial step, CWA has continued to work with the group by assisting in the development of the Watershed Management Plan. A land use analysis was conducted that identifies recommendations for each community on how to address issues of water quality. A key part of this baseline study was to evaluate each community’s planning and development documents and determine how well natural resources are currently being preserved and protected.
