Master Plan
Augusta Township, MI

Augusta Township, like many rural Washtenaw County townships, has experienced growth pressure of varying degrees that propose development of agricultural lands into residential subdivisions. This situation particularly concerned the Township residents because they value the peacefulness and privacy afforded by “country living.” Carlisle/Wortman Associates assisted the Township in updating its Master Plan to create a basis for future agricultural preservation through state and federal agricultural preservation programs.

This Master Plan also provides goals and objectives to preserve agricultural lands because of the “prime” quality of the existing soils and the economic benefits farming provides, not just the rural character created by farms. Additionally, the plan addresses increasing the commercial and industrial tax base, preserving small-town character in the Villages of Willis and Whittaker, and protecting the environment, while expanding public utilities.
