shared Use Pathways
Scio Township, MI
The development of non-motorized pathways was recognized as a priority for Scio residents as part of the Township Master Land Use Plan update. A Non-motorized Paths Study Group was formed in 2010 with the goal to move forward the realization of non-motorized shared-use pathways for Scio.
The Study Group embarked on an initiative that consisted of three phases with the first phase concentrating on the identification and prioritization of a number of potential pathway segments. Carlisle/Wortman Associates helped facilitate this prioritization through a “preference” exercise which identified critical segments and connections. Priority segments for non-motorized shared-use pathways were determined after further evaluation.
It became apparent during the development of this study that Scio Township should work closely with the Washtenaw County Road Commission for roadway improvement and construction to provide for a complete streets transportation solution that includes considerations for users of all types and abilities.
