Park Feasibility Study
Eaton County, Mi
The Eaton County Parks Commission, in conjunction with the Public Works and Planning Committee, is evaluating the possible purchase of a property for a new county park. Located a few miles east of the City of Charlotte on M-50, this 424-acre property features a 160-acre lake on a reclaimed sand and gravel extraction site. While the most recent County Parks and Recreation Master Plan suggests a high level of interest and public support for parks and expansion of recreation opportunities in Eaton County, the costs associated with the development and operation of a new park will need to be balanced with revenues.
In summary, the study concludes that there is market support and that this site will provide an ideal water-oriented recreation resource for the County. It also concludes that acquisition costs and a significant portion of development costs can be offset through grant dollars. Operational costs will, however, need to be evaluated and balanced with anticipated park entry fees and revenues.
