The City of St. Clair Shores is located on the shores of Lake St. Clair in southeast Macomb County, about 13 miles north of downtown Detroit. Through enthusiastic support from City residents, the Parks and Recreation Department has flourished to include an extensive, quality system of parks and recreation facilities that respond to residents needs. St. Clair Shores include 13 waterfront, community, and neighborhood parks. In addition, the City operates the Civic Arena Complex and the Country Club. These facilities are well used by residents and support an extensive array of programs for pre-schoolers to seniors which include an array of water based activities, athletic and fitness programs, indoor activities, and cultural opportunities.

Faced with reductions in staff and financial resources, the challenge of the Department will be to continue to maintain a high level of service as well as quality recreation facilities and programming. Using public input as a basis, goals and objectives were formulated to accomplish this and specific recommendations were offered, detailing the manner in which they can be met.
