parks & recreation master plan
pittsfield charter Township, Mi
The Charter Township of Pittsfield owns and maintains 14 parks that total more than 1,000 acres of land. In 2010, half of this park land only had public access and trails, while a third were undeveloped. The Township faced the challenge to maintain and develop these park properties as it moved in the 2010s.
The Plan articulates a vision for the Township’s park facilities and recreation programs and brings together several recreation planning efforts the Township has undertaken to guide future decisions. The Plan incorporates the results of a public opinion survey and elements of other planning initiatives including land preservation and greenway efforts, forest stewardship plans, a community center study, and a concept plan for the Pittsfield Preserve.
A key element of this planning effort is the action program, developed to guide implementation of the recommended actions. The action program details the manner in which the vision for Pittsfield parks can be achieved with a list of specific projects and tasks recommended to be accomplished during the next five years. A distinctive element of this plan includes the park development plans prepared for each Township park to illustrate the proposed park improvements.
