The 2010 Parks and Recreation Master Plan for the City of Woodhaven included recommendations for the improvement and development of Civic Center Park, the primary community park for Woodhaven. The park is popular for walkers, dog walkers, athletic leagues, and winter use. It is a community landmark easily identified from motorists travelling on I-75. The City of Woodhaven saw an opportunity to enhance the park as well as make the site more inviting and attractive to all residents and users.
A preliminary layout plan refining the earlier concept plan was prepared for the first phase of development which focused on the north portion of the property adjacent to the Community Center and City Hall buildings. The plan includes a park program, design features, costs, and phasing for construction. In addition, a senior garden was designed to create a patio area for the use of seniors. Features of theses plans include a central picnic pavilion, a large playground area, a new “safety Town” area, senior patio, bocce courts, skate park, a full-size football field, and development of parking and pedestrian pathways.
